Värtans IK was one of 417 clubs from Sweden that had teams playing during Gothia Cup 2012. They participated with one team in Girls 17. In addition to Värtans IK, 84 other teams from 14 different countries played in Girls 17. They were divided into 21 different groups, whereof Värtans IK could be found in Group 18 together with Ulricehamn/Åsunden, IFK Örby and KFV Segeberg. Värtans IK continued to Slutspel A after reaching 1:st place in Group 18. In the playoff they made it to 1/16 Final, but lost it against Cestria Girls FC with 2-3. In the Final, Bele Barkarby FF won over Gustafs GoIF and became the winner of Slutspel A in Girls 17. Värtans comes from Stockholm which lies approximately 400 km from Göteborg, where Gothia Cup takes place. The area around Stockholm does also provide 55 additional clubs participating during Gothia Cup 2012 (Among others: Spånga IS FK, IF Brommapojkarna, AIK FF, Älvsjö AIK FF, Bollstanäs SK, Tullinge TP, Rosersberg IK, Rönninge Salem Fotboll, DFF, Vasalunds and Boo FF).
