HJK Helsinki was one of 12 clubs from Finland that had teams playing during Gothia Cup 2016. They participated with one team in Gothia Tipselit Trophy (B17). In addition to HJK Helsinki, 35 other teams from 12 different countries played in Gothia Tipselit Trophy (B17). They were divided into 6 different groups, whereof HJK Helsinki could be found in Group 6 together with Kalmar FF, TikiTaka Academy and Malmö FF. HJK Helsinki continued to Play off B after reaching 4:th place in Group 6. In the playoff they made it to Semi final, but lost it against IFK Göteborg with 0-2. In the Final, IFK Göteborg won over Kalmar FF and became the winner of Play off B in Gothia Tipselit Trophy (B17). HJK Helsinki also participated in Gothia Tipselit Trophy (B17) during Gothia Cup 2015. They reached the Semi final in B17E Play off A, but lost it against Right to Dream with 0-3. HJK Helsinki comes from Helsinki which lies approximately 790 km from Göteborg, where Gothia Cup takes place. The area around Helsinki does also provide four additional clubs participating during Gothia Cup 2016 (Tikkurilan Palloseura, Special Olympics Finland, FC Honka and PK-35).
